The problem that may most affect me in the next 4 years would most likely be the war in the Middle East. I am hoping to join the military after my college years as a translator and hopefully leave to do diplomatic work the Middle East region. I think that for me the way America and the future administration handles the current situation it will deeply affect how my career will go and how future Americans will deal and be dealt with by that area.
The soon to be in office administration (headed by Democrat Barack Obama) has stated many times that upon entry into office that they will begin a pull out of Iraq in a period of 14-16 months, this would free up waves of troops to be deployed to Afghanistan. This move would prove beneficial for Afghanistan and will definitely help with the rebuilding and securing of the area from terrorists and militants that are against the west. However this would leave the fledgling democracy of Iraq possibly vulnerable to influence of terrorists or Iran like policies of aggression. The main question is that if we pull out to focus of Afghanistan will our investment in Iraq crumble or be able to succeed. If it does succeed it will mark a turning point in the war on terror and eventually lead to our victory in Afghanistan and over terrorism. If it doesn’t then it is highly possible it will hurt Obama’s administration as well as the credibility of the United States for going into a country and leaving with finishing the job resulting in chaos for the country. This will also require a possible U.S reentry that will be needed to restore order. One thing that we should all hope that is we should not have any “do overs” in the Middle East which could cause even more U.S embarrassment and hurting our nations influence of the world. So in terms as what might affect us most in the next few years as a whole country will be the handling of the Middle East and how our nation can survive as the “worlds police”
My family as well as every family has or has had members in the military and we have to be careful on how far we use them, we cannot afford to irresponsibly use them. This area needs to be taken very close car of because it affects all American families with members in the service as well as the international markets and policies we have. Failure in the Middle east could mean higher gas prices, problems in the military, and a huge impact on the nations economy with how much we spend on damage control. If we are to make the wrong mistake then this house of cards we have built ourselves could come tumbling down. This action is so broad that it affects many of our aspects in life and its why it is so important for us to be careful and mindful of our actions. As citizens we have to be sure in what we want our leaders to do and sure that our leaders can carry those wishes out. The goal for our nation must be to achieve victory in one form or another and for us to pull together so that America can stand up to all things.
