This year at USF I am trying to get into the USF Navel Reserve Officer Training Corp (NROTC) and I hope that after I graduate I can be a member of the United States Marine Corp. I have wanted to do this all my like and I feel that this is my calling, and I have many chances to work on my goal while at USF. I talked with the man who helped get me on this track back in high school, my old marine recruiting officer, Sgt. Brun. I asked him what I could do in the marines and if I could do what I wanted. I want to be a translator in the military and he told me that that option is available and in demand because of the current state we are in with the Middle East. He said that I would need to learn languages and possibly switch my major to linguistics or minor in it in order to get me started on the process. He said I would also have to be in NROTC at USF or go to OSC after graduation, both require me to be in top physical shape.
He said that I can expect job security but some of the problems is that the linguistics field in the military is a slow advancement field. He also said to be an officer is a lot of hard work and dedication, but both of those I believe I have. Another obvious problem is the fact that I may have to go to war in the Middle East and I would also be in a position where real harm could come to me. However he was very optimistic in my general health and was very keen on wanting me to continue my work. We talked about what I would do and he said I would be responsible for coordinating linguistics soldiers and bridging gaps between American and foreign forces.
I am confident that I will be able to get this job and that I will be able to market my experience afterwards in the fields of foreign relations which is my current major. The skills I learn could be valuable to the government as well as companies and firms that do business in the area. I am very excited on my ventures and I hope that USF can help me to get to where I want to be.
